about
"For Sale" is the first song I released that I didn't completely hate.
Written spontaneously when re-recording solo material written for my first, since-defunked band, "The Socks," as part of my first, home-recorded, EP release, the track was meant to reflect a paranoia and anxiety from which I was suffering (through the lens of a fictional character) in an emerging post-pandemic world.
For Sale is played in DADGAD tuning with two fingers at most used on the fretboard at a time, and it is still a song I play live from time to time. In hindsight, one or two more vocal takes probably couldn't have hurt.
My original release notes read:
"This could be about a person questioning their sexuality in a world where they've made themself out to be something they're not, it could be about a person who is paranoid about the control rich people and corporations have over cultural and economic influence, or it could just be about paranoia. Either way, it's droney and uses a mountain dulcimer so I think it's cool."
These are sentiments I maintain.
lyrics
They're all starting to know
They have figured me out
I know a place where we can go where they won't look at us like we were never born
Take me baby as I am
Treat me like you did when you went away
Take hold of my hand, help me understand
How a man's supposed to live and die this way
God must be real, 'cause the devil's alive and he resides in you
The future is for sale
Get it while you can
'Cause the deep-pocket people they're all buying it up
You better move while we still go tin inside the can
God must be real, 'cause the devil's alive and he resides in you
He resides in you
He resides in you
