Obscene 03:28
Is it obscene To smile as you sleep through Everything? So serene To weightlessly seep through Reality Or do you not think so much? Do you not think so much? Such a dream To watch your eyes gleam through Eternity Lately I don't think so much Lately I don't think so much Lately I don't think so much Lately I don't think so much
2.
The wonderous flame Lies withinside Keep it alive Cause I I am so high The spirit never dies And I I am so high I am reaching for the sky And I I am so high Never coming home Coming home I I am so high The spirit never dies And I Am beyond this plane of life Beyond this plane of life And I I am alive I am reaching for the sky I am alive I am alive

about

"Obscene" is based on an idea for a song that uses a simple, open guitar riff over a drum machine, and builds from there. I had initially recorded a version of this tune in that style, also including electric guitar and a bass synth amongst other instrumentation.

However, I came to a realization upon finishing that version that what I needed to do for myself and my solo music was pursue a simpler sound that would be in some ways more personal (of course, without compromising somewhat abstract lyrics and spiritual themes). I had been fed up with listening to music made by my contemporaries published under their regular name, disingenuously trying to feign some band or popstar aesthetic, and wanted to get away from that, as I had noticed this problem permeating into my own catalogue and presentation.

This led to a complete re-recording, re-arranging, and re-writing of this song, which I now present to you in a noisy, creaky, acoustic form and fashion.

I also, to you Bandcamp listeners, present you with that original recording, and hope that it provides you a window into this song's evolution. Maybe you'll even like it, too.
