This small EP at the time of recording and release seemed like a larger endeavor than I was used to, but it had been a while since I'd released anything and it felt right to work on new and old tunes that I felt warranted a release. For the first time I worked rather hard on promotional materials, and even commissioned artwork from my dear friend and very talented artist, Frances Tingle.
The piece that resulted, in my opinion, has forgettable tunes with the exception of, "People," which I still like and respect.
Regardless, I still find this EP's production to be lackluster in many places, despite great artwork, good performances here and there, and a noticeable, dynamic range of genre influence. This, not to my surprise, garnered a small amount of hate on Reddit for having songs that did not sound alike, according to users. This reaction helped me to deal with accepting harsh, nonconstructive, negative feedback. For that I am grateful, and I now see all feedback as constructive in some way.
Ultimately I consider this release a somehwat failed experiment with an occasional nice moment of creativity and brevity. I quietly pulled this release from major streaming services, as if anyone was listening in the first place, as I found it nonrepresentative of the quality work I know I am capable of producing.
Nonetheless, I hope that if you listen, you find some semblance of value. The title track has drum and guitar tones that I like, "People" features three different time signatures and a decent vocal performance, and the greatest accomplishment of "Shake" to me is the finger noise on the acoustic guitar and reference to Dallas' I-30 highway. If any of this sounds appealing to you, I implore you to listen and genuinely hope that you take away something valuable, as always.
